New 200 dash and high jump records are set at Lake State Open

SAULT STE. MARIE - The men's 200-meter dash and men's high jump school records fell during the Lake State Open indoor track and field meet, which was held Saturday at the Student Activity Center.

DJ Battistella and Adam Smith both improved upon Smith's old 200 record of :22.69. Battistella won the event in 22:52, while Smith was second in 22:53.

Dana Skytta set a new school high jump mark of 6-5 ¼.

First-place finishers for the Laker men included: Tom Thornton (mile), 4:22.0; Jordan Baker (55-meter dash), :06.50; Darryl Byrdge (55-meter hurdles), :07.96; Battistella (400-meter dash), :49.62; Marc Small (800-meter run), 1:56; Ben Tarbutton (3,000-meter run), 8:57.2; Skytta (weight throw), 48-0 ½.

Top finishers for the Laker women were Katie Scott, who was third in the mile (5:16.2), Amanda Pieczynski, who was third in the 55-meter dash (:07.13), and Courtney Smith, who was second in the shot put (31-10 ½).

The Northern Michigan and Laurentian women's teams, the Track North men's team and several unattached runners also competed in the meet.
