BOSTON - Lake Superior State junior Adam Smith shattered his former indoor 400-meter dash record of :48.95 by clocking a :48.20 to win his preliminary heat Friday at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.

Smith's time currently ranks 13th in NCAA Division II.

Teammate DJ Battistella also ran an excellent race, winning his heat in :49.22. He just missed the NCAA qualifying standard.

Laker freshman Katie Scott will compete in the women's 5K Saturday at 11 a.m.
