BOSTON, Mass. - Lake Superior State junior Adam Smith finished ninth in Friday's preliminaries of the men's 400-meter dash at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Smith, who clocked a :48.74, will compete in the finals at 4:35 p.m. today. The top eight finishers achieve all-America status.
