April 2, 2007 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Lake Superior State freshman Travis Baril, a Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., native, broke a 32-year-old school record by clearing 6-6 in the men's high jump last Friday at the UNC-Chapel Hill Invitational. Baril finished second in the event to Michigan's John Kipf, who cleared 6-8. LSSU's previous school record of 6-4 was shared by Jim Kjolhede (1975) and Quentin Hunt (2001). Baril was fifth in the triple jump (42-1 1/2). Freshman Katie Scott also broke a two-year-old school record by clocking a time of 11:14.90 to win the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Teammate Stephanie Riedel was third in 11:55.48. Scott also won the women's 5,000-meter run in 18:01.32, while Riedel was second in 20:26.25. Junior Adam Smith placed third in the men's 400-meter dash in :48.75, finishing behind winner Andrew Wechter of Michigan (:47.94) and Thomas Hunter, who competed unattached (:48.42). Marc Small clocked a 1:55.98 to finish 11th in the men's 800-meter run, while Kevin Macomber was 31st (1:59.68). Macomber was also 36th in the 1,500 with a time of 4:20.25. |
