HILLSDALE - Lake Superior State junior Adam Smith broke his own school record and finished first among 62 competitors in the men's 400-meter run on Saturday at the Hillsdale Gina Relays.

Smith clocked a :47:37 to break his old mark of :47.91. He finished ahead of Central Michigan's Steve Wezner, who came in at :47.73. Four Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference runners placed in the top 10.

Jordan Baker, Darryl Byrge, Travis Baril and Paul Davis bettered their school record in the men's 4x100-meter relay. They placed 11th with a time of :43.90. Davis was also 24th in the 200-meter dash (:22.83), and Byrge was 14th in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.91). Baril finished sixth in the triple jump (42-6 ¾).
