Adam Smith

May 13, 2006

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Lake Superior State sophomore Adam Smith won the 400-meter dash at the Dr. Keeler Open held Friday at Naperville's North Central College, but he finished a second off his goal time of :47.5.

The competition just wasn't fast enough to push Smith, who won the race easily in :48.47. He went into his final competition of the season hoping to break into the top 16 national rankings in his event, and needed a time faster than his school-record time of :47.91.

Anthony Pavicic placed third in the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:52.4, which was more than four seconds faster than his Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference finish and enabled him to break into the top-20 nationally. DJ Battistella was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles (:55.76), and Chris Winkler was ninth in the shot put (48-6).
