SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State and Northern Michigan cross country teams squared off at the 2007 Lake State Open on a 5,250-meter course.

LSSU's Ben Tarbutton won the men's race in 17:42, while Tom Thornton was fourth in 17:59. Luke Allen finished fifth in 18:00, while Kevin Macomber was sixth in 18:10.

Katie Scott recorded a time of 20:27 and led the LSSU women with a second-place finish. Stephanie Riedel was third in 20:31, while Ashley Quick was eighth in 21:32. Stacey Leyder placed 15th in 22:04, followed by Angela Perry, who was 20th in 22:55.

NMU runners in the men's race competed unattached.
