EAST LANSING - Sophomore Katie Scott placed ninth overall and third among non-Division I runners to lead the Lake Superior State cross country team at the season-opening Spartan Invitational held Friday at Michigan State University.

Times were not posted for women's teams. Four of the top eight spots went to MSU runners.

For the LSSU women, Ashley Quick was 29th, Stephanie Riedel 32nd, Danielle Reinbold 37th, Mandi DeBlock 41st, Marissa Ingle 61st, Jade Szubelak 66th, Stacey Leyder 69th, Courtney Smith 74th, Alyse Smith 95th and Emily Bowen 97th.

Senior Scott Hosie (27:20) and junior Tom Thornton (27:21) were 29th and 30th, respectivley, to lead the LSSU men's squad. Hosie was seventh among non-Division I competitors.
