Lakers compete at Michigan Intercollegiate

DETROIT - Jeff Thuss completed an 8K course in 27:13 and placed 31st to lead the Lakers at the Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship Friday.

Thuss was 27th among Division II and III runners. Temmate Andy Cojeen finished 35th overall in 27:26.8 and 31st in the collegiate division. The LSSU men's team was ninth among 13 teams. Eastern Michigan University won the men's title, followed by Grand Valley and Wayne State.

Rounding out Lake Superior State's overall men's finishes were: 59. Jake Denkins, 28:36.9; 63. Anthony Pavicic, 28:46.4; 74. Jerry Drennan, 29:22.7; 79. Dave Partyke, 29:52.2.

Amanda Freeman was 42nd overall with a 6K time of 24:47.7 to lead the Laker women, who were 12th in the team standings. Amy Busfield was 44th in 24:58.8, while Heather Hammond (28:21.1) was 83rd, Annarae Cole (28:22.3) 84th and Michelle Deneau (28:29.9) 85th. Wayne State claimed the women's title, while Grand Valley finished second.
