MARQUETTE - Lake Superior State sophomore Katie Scott beat Northern Michigan University's top runner, Bibiane Mahy, for the first time this season to win the NMU Invitational held Friday. According to LSSU coach Steve Eles, Scott ran her best race of the year and finish 10 seconds ahead of Mahy. Scott, who has finished behind Mahy in two previous races this season, clocked a time of 11:18.4. Senior Tom Thornton won the men's race in 16:35.5 to complete a LSSU sweep. Laker senior Chris Olds finished second in 16:46.7, followed by junior Ben Tarbutton in fourth place with a time of 16:55.4. The LSSU men totaled 19 points to win the team event. The NMU Ski Club was second with 38 points, followed by the NMU Club team with 85. NMU defeated LSSU in the women's dual, 25-34.
