Scott places ninth at GLIAC Championships

FAIRVIEW, Pa. - For the second straight year, Lake Superior State sophomore Katie Scott placed ninth at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, which were held Saturday at Pleasant Ridge Park.

Scott was 10th overall on the 6K course with a time of 23:18.81, but placed ninth for scoring purposes as Grand Valley State dominated eight of the top 10 positions. The overall winner was Wayne State junior Rachelle Malette in 22:00.17.

In GLIAC scoring, Lake State's Ashley Quick was 31st in 24:07.80, followed by Stephanie Riedel who was 31st in 24:19.20, Stacy Leyder, who was 57th in 25:15.34, Angela Perry, who was 80th in 26:36.10, Sarah Christilaw, who was 87th in 27:04.80, and Marissa Ingle, who was 89th in 27:17.69.

The Laker women finished eighth in the team standings. The top seven runners figure into team scoring.

The LSSU men were ninth in the team standings and were led by senior Tom Thornton, who placed 49th overall and 42nd in scoring with a time of 27:39.69 on the 8K course.

Chris Olds was 50th in 27:51.91, followed by Kevin Macomber in 52nd place (27:53.28), Luke Allen in 60th place (28:36.01), Ben Tarbutton in 61st place (28:41.85), Jason Ferguson in 78th place (30:05.30) and Jake Hoover in 81st place (30:38.81).
