LSSU places 11th in men's and women's regional

BIG RAPIDS - The Lake Superior State men's and women's cross country teams both placed 11th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship held Saturday at Ferris State University's Katke Golf Course.

The men's meet included 20 teams, while 21 teams competed in the women's division.

Senior Brooke Brenner placed 41st in 23:30.9 to lead the LSSU women. Laker sophomore Mandi DeBlock was 46th (23:38.2), followed by senior Michelle Ballance in 86th (24:49.8), junior Christina Etapa in 90th (24:55.4) and freshman Stephanie Riedel in 93rd (25:01.5).

Rounding out the Lakers' top seven spots were freshman Charlotte Folkersma in 94th (25:02.0) and sophomore Dale Burnham in 130th (26:27.3).

Sophomore Chris Olds was 44th in 33:30.1 to lead the Laker men's squad. He was followed by junior Scott Hosie in 54th (33:53.9), sophomore Ben Tarbutton in 62nd (34:04.3), sophomore Emory Nelkie in 71st (34:18.1) and sophomore Charlie Johnson in 78th (34:28.4).

Top-seven finishers included junior Matt Merian in 104th (35:08.1) and sophomore Tom Thornton in 132nd (37:00.5).
