SAULT STE. MARIE - Twenty-four Lake Superior State athletes representing four fall sports were named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. Among the standouts were senior volleyball player Jamie Groos (Escanaba, Mich.), who carries a 3.954 grade point average in computer science/computer networking, and sophomores Sarah Cristilaw (Midland, Mich.) and Emily Bowen (Reed City, Mich.) of the cross country team, who have 4.0 and 3.85 GPAs, respectively, in nursing. In addition to Gross, Laker volleyball players on the all-academic team also included senior Erin McLain (Alpena, Mich.), juniors Trisha Dutton (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) and Ali Jones (Fruitport, Mich.), and sophomores Samantha Gibbs (Hope, Mich.) and Sara Hess (Owosso, Mich.). Sophomore Weronika Lomacka (Warsaw, Poland) and senior Megan LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) were the LSSU women's tennis team's representatives on the GLIAC All-Academic Team. The 10 women's cross country all-academic honorees also included juniors Katie Scott (Mitchell, Ont.), Jade Olds (Fairview, Mich.) and Stephanie Riedel (Eau Clair, Wis.), and sophomores Ashley Quick (Harbor Springs, Mich.), Alyse Smith (Clayton, Mich.), Marissa Ingle (Delton, Mich.), Kathleen Rooney (Waterford, Mich.) and Stacey Leyder (Newaygo, Mich.). Senior Evan Williams (Plainwell, Mich.), with a 3.70 GPA in education, was the top student-athlete from the LSSU men's cross country team. Seniors Adam Smith (Mount Pleasant, Mich.), Tom Thornton (Sand Lake, Mich.) and Kevin Macomber (Gregory, Mich.), junior Luke Allen (Manistee, Mich.) and sophomore Jake Hoover (Capac, Mich.) also made the all-academic list. |
