Lakers fall at home to Tech

SAULT STE. MARIE - Radayl Richardson's 31 pints and four steals was too much for Lake Superior State as the Michigan Tech men's basketball team defeated the Lakers 63-53 Saturday at Bud Cooper Gym.

Richardson scored 18 second-half points for the Huskies (13-12 overall, 8-8 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), who overtook the Lakers during the final 10 minutes of the game.

LSSU dropped to 8-16 overall and 5-10 in the GLIAC.

Lake Superior State led 27-26 at halftime and held a 40-35 edge with 11:08 remaining.

Richardson scored eight points during an 11-2 MTU run that gave the Huskies a 46-42 lead with 6:52 left in the game. Michigan Tech extended the lead to nine points, 54-45, with 4:03 to go.

Ryan Kuhl totaled 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead LSSU. Mark Morse added 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Lakers shot 45.8 percent from the field, including 5-of-16 from three-point range. They made 4-of-9 free throws.

Michigan Tech shot 39.7 percent from the field, including 6-of-17 from behind the arc. The Huskies were 11-for-21 at the line.

Both teams totaled 35 rebounds.

The Lakers play host to Saginaw Valley State at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
