Feb. 21, 2007 MIDLAND - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team closed out the 2006-07 season with a 64-60 victory at Northwood on Wednesday, avenging a two-point home loss to the Timberwolves in December. The Lakers (9-18 overall, 6-12 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) canned four three-pointers during a three-minute stretch to build an 13-point lead with 8:44 remaining. Garrett Konuszewski hit two three-pointers, and Mark Morse and Mike Rader added one each during LSSU's 16-2 run. Northwood (9-17 overall, 4-13 GLIAC) cut the lead to two points, 60-58, with 2:15 remaining. Both teams were scoreless for two minutes until Morse sank two free throws with 15 seconds to go. NU's Enrique Hope made it 62-60 with a lay-up at the five-second mark. The Timberwolves fouled on the in-bounds play, and Morse sealed the win with two more free throws with four seconds left. Ryan Kuhl led the Lakers with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Morse finished with 18 points and four assists. Tim VanOudheusden added 10 points, and Rader led in rebounds with eight. LSSU shot 44.4 percent from the field and made 8-of-20 three-point shots. The Lakers were 8-for-13 at the free-throw line and out-rebounded Northwood, 31-29. Curt Ludtke led NU with 24 points and nine rebounds. The Timberwolves shot 47.9 percent from the field, including 5-of-16 from three-point range, and made 9-of-15 free throws. LSSU and Northwood combined to total 46 turnovers. They were deadlocked, 28-28, at halftime. |
