SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State University has opted not to renew LSSU men's basketball coach Mike Fitzner's contract, LSSU director of athletics Kris Dunbar announced today.

Fitzner served as head coach for four seasons and compiled a career record of 33-76. The Lakers finished 9-18 overall this season, including a 6-12 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Prior to being named head coach, Fitzner was an assistant under former Laker head coach Marty McDermott for four years.

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
