Johnson, Kuhl earn All-GLIAC First Team honors

BAY CITY - Lake Superior State senior forward Mandi Johnson and sophomore forward Ryan Kuhl earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team honors, while senior guard Monica Rehmann was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team for 2007.

Mandi Johnson


Johnson (St. Ignace, Mich.), who was also named to the GLIAC North Division All-Defensive Team, received first-team honors for the second straight year. She finished third in the league in steals (2.70 spg) and offensive rebounds (2.74 rpg), and was sixth in scoring (16.2 ppg) and overall rebounds (8.0 rpg).

Ryan Kuhl


Kuhl (Rochester, Mich.), who led the Lakers in scoring and rebounding for the second straight season, posted the GLIAC's fourth best field-goal percentage of .589 (165-280). He was sixth in scoring (16.0 ppg), ninth in free-throw percentage at .776 (97-127) and 13th in rebounding (6.1 rpg).

Monica Rehmann


Rehmann (St. Johns, Mich.) led the GLIAC in free-throw percentage at .882 (90-102). She ranked fourth in the league in assist/turnover ration (1.36), fifth in three-point field goals made (1.81), ninth in assists (3.63 apg), and 10th in scoring (14.1 ppg) and three-point field-goal percentage (.395).

The women's All-GLIAC North Division First Team also included Grand Valley State's Julia Braseth and Crystal Zick, Ferris State's Rachel Folcik and Michigan Tech's Sarah Stream. The second team included Northern Michigan's Allison Carroll, Ferris State's Kristin Reinhart, Grand Valley State's Erika Ryskamp and Michigan Tech's Katie Wysocky.

Gannon's Christina Jackson was named GLIAC Player of the Year, while Wysocky was the Freshman of the Year. Gannon coach Cleve Wright was named GLIAC Coach of the Year.

The men's All-GLIAC North Division First Team also included GVSU's Callistus Eziukwu and Jason Jamerson, MTU's Radayl Richardson and NMU's Ricky Volcy. Second-team honors went to GVSU's Mike Hall, Saginaw Valley State's Lawrence Ross, FSU's Terrance Shaw, MTU's Tim Strom and NMU's Will Washington.

Volcy was named GLIAC Player of the Year, and Findlay's Marcus Parker earned rookie of the year honors. UF coach Ron Niekamp was named GLIAC Coach of the Year.
