BAY CITY - Lake Superior State junior Ryan Kuhl was voted to the 2007-08 Pre-Season All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team by league coaches. The pre-season team and pre-season media poll were announced today during GLIAC Media Day. The LSSU men's basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the North Division. The Lakers return all five starters from last year's team, which finished 9-18 overall and 6-12 in the GLIAC in 2006-07. "We're trying to put our own stamp on our team during the first couple weeks of practice," LSSU first-year head coach Steve Hettinga said. "I think the guys have responded well. We've had a couple injuries and guys out of practice, so I don't think we've seen our true team yet." LSSU opens its season Nov. 16-17 during the GLIAC v. GLVC Challenge at Wisconsin-Parkside. They play the Lewis Flyers at 4 p.m. EST on Nov. 16. "We'll be tested early," Hettinga said. "With Ryan Kuhl and Mark Morse, and with Garrett Konuszewski, we have key guys coming back. They got a lot of playing experience their first couple years." Kuhl earned All-GLIAC First Team honors as a sophomore after averaging 16 points and 6.1 rebounds per game last season. He was ranked sixth in the GLIAC in scoring, 12th in rebounding and fourth in field-goal percentage. Kuhl's field-goal percentage of .589 also ranks eighth on LSSU's single-season list.
