Perkins hits career-high 25 against undefeated Gannon

SAULT STE. MARIE - Sophomore guard Scott Perkins scored a career-high 25 points for the Lake Superior State men's basketball team, which lost 75-63 to undefeated Gannon on Thursday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Perkins netted 15 points in the second half before fouling out with 2:16 remaining. He was 8-for-14 from the field and 6-of-8 at the line for the game. He also led LSSU in rebounds with eight.

LSSU (0-7 overall, 0-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) trailed 38-28 at halftime and fell behind 52-30 five minutes into the secon half. The Lakers trimmed the deficit to 13 points, 61-48, with 6:49 to go and closed within 12 points during the final two minutes.

Pierre Howard scored 20 points to lead Gannon (6-0 overall, 3-0 GLIAC).

Ryan Kuhl scored 14 points and Tim VanOudheusden added 11 for the Lakers.

LSSU shot 38.6 percent from the field and made 12-of-19 free throws. Gannon shot 48.1 percent from the field and was 19-of-28 at the line. The Golden Knights out-rebounded the Lakers, 39-30.

LSSU plays host to Mercyhurst at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
