Michigan overpowers LSSU in Game 2

ANN ARBOR - Michigan picked up where it left off Friday night and blistered the Lakers with 49 shots on goal in Saturday's 4-0 shutout victory at Yost Arena.

U-M (18-7-1 overall, 13-4-1 Central Collegiate Hockey Association), which scored three third-period goals in Friday's 5-1 win, peppered LSSU with more shots on goal than any team this season on Saturday. LSSU starting goaltender Matt Violin totaled 33 saves and allowed three goals through two periods, and Jeff Jakaitis stopped 12 of 13 shots in the third.

Nick Martens gave Michigan a 1-0 lead at 4:11 of the first period. Milan Gajic and Brandon Kaleniecki added power-play goals at 5:04 and 10:16 of the second period. David Rohlfs scored the Wolverines' fourth goal at 9:50 of the third period.

Brandon Rogers and Andrew Ebbett had two assists each for U-M.

Michigan goaltender Al Montoya totaled 13 saves.

U-M finished 2-for-3 on the power play, while Lake Superior State was 0-for-3.

LSSU (6-13-5 overall, 4-11-3 CCHA) plays host to Michigan State at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Taffy Abel Arena. The Lakers and MSU also play at 7:35 p.m. Saturday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
