Bowling Green finishes a goal better than LSSU

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Lake Superior State scored the only goal of the third period, but the Lakers failed to tie the game while on a power play during the final two minutes of the game and suffered a 3-2 loss at Bowling Green in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association game on Friday.

LSSU (6-16-5 overall, 4-14-3 CCHA) cut BGSU's lead to 3-2 on Jeff Rainville's goal at 4:06 of the third period. The Lakers, still trailing, went on the power play with 1:50 remaining in the game and pulled goaltender Jeff Jakaitis to gain a two-man advantage during the final 23 seconds. The Falcons (9-14-7 overall, 7-11-4 CCHA) successfully killed off the penalty to secure the victory.

Steve McJannet also scored for the Lakers at 4:00 of the first period. Tim Krueckl and Jon Booras assisted on McJannet's goal, while Dominic Osman and Kory Scoran drew assists on Rainville's.

D'Arcy McConvey tallied back-to-back goals at 16:09 and 18:59 of the first period to put Bowling Green ahead 2-1. The Falcons' Steve Brudzewski made it 3-1 with a power-play goal at 15:38 of the second period.

BGSU finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while LSSU was 0-for-7. The Falcons out-shot LSSU, 26-22.

Winning goaltender Jordan Sigalet totaled 20 saves, while Jakaitis stopped 23 shots for the Lakers.

The Lakers hope to end a nine-game losing streak when they play the Falcons in Game 2 at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the BGSU Ice Arena.
