Laker icers turn tables on Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS - Lake Superior State turned the tables on Ferris State during Game 2 of this weekend's Central Collegiate Hockey Association series.

After being out-shot 17-5 and out-scored 2-0 in in the third period of Friday's 2-1 loss, the Lakers came from behind to beat the Bulldogs 4-2 on Saturday. They scored three unanswered goals during a 10-minute span in the second period and maintained their lead in the third period despite being out-shot 20-5.

Ferris State (15-16-3 overall, 10-15-1 CCHA) took a while to get going, but eventually mounted more and more pressure on LSSU. Freshman goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (4-7-4) gave up two goals early, but was unbeatable late in the game and totaled 39 saves.

Bulldog goaltender Mike Brown (15-16-3) stopped 16 shots.

Laker sophomore Steve McJannet scored the first of his two goals at 1:52 of the first period. Ferris State's Derek Nesbitt tied it at 4:40, and teammate Jeff Legue gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead with a short-handed goal at 7:26 of the second period.

Lake Superior State (8-17-7 overall, 6-15-5 CCHA), which is 2-1-2 in its last five games, regained the lead on goals by McJannet at 8:12, Colin Nicholson at 16:50 and Trent Campbell at 18:44 of the second period.

Nathan Ward assisted on the Lakers' last two goals. Mike Adamek, who tallied the Lakers' only goal on Friday, and Ren Fauci also drew assists.

Ferris State out-shot LSSU, 41-20. The Lakers were 0-for-4 on the power play, while Ferris State was 0-for-0.

Matt York had two assists for the Bulldogs.

The Lakers close out the regular season on Friday and Saturday, March 5-6, at home against Notre Dame. LSSU's four seniors - Kyle Anderson, Chris Peterson, Ryan Branham and Tim Krueckl -- will be honored following Saturday's game.
