Lakers lose game one of CCHA playoffs to Miami

OXFORD, Ohio--The University of Miami (20-12-4, 17-8-3 CCHA) shut out Lake Superior (9-18-7, 7-16-5) 4-0 in game one of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs Friday night at Goggin Ice Arena. The 11th placed Lakers are playing the 2nd placed RedHawks in a best of three series for a chance to play in the CCHA Super Six at Joe Louis Arena.

Miami's Matt Christie gave Miami a 1-0 lead with his 20th goal of the season in the first period. Greg Hogeboom, Marty Guerin, and Todd Grant all scored for the RedHawks in the second period.

Freshman Jeff Jakaitis made 26 saves and allowed four goals. Junior goaltender Matt Violin relieved Jakaitis in the third period making 16 saves. Brandon Crawford-West stopped all nine of the Lakers shots.

The Lakers and RedHawks will meet again Saturday night at 7:35 p.m.
