Lakers fail to reverse roles with Miami

Oct. 25, 2003

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State came up short in its attempt to come back from a 2-0 deficit like Miami did on Friday and suffered a 2-1 loss to the RedHawks in Saturday's Central Collegiate Hockey Association game at Taffy Abel Arena.

LSSU freshman Dominic Osman scored a power-play goal at 13:57 of the second period to make it 2-1. LSSU also out-shot Miami 10-5 in the third period, but couldn't get any closer than the one-goal deficit. The RedHawks (3-4-1 overall, 2-2-0 CCHA) swept the Lakers in Sault Ste. Marie for the first time in school history. They also improved to 2-0 in games in which they have been out-shot by their opponent.

On Friday, Miami trailed 2-0 in the first period, but the RedHawks came back with five unanswered goals.

LSSU (1-2-1 overall, 0-2-0 CCHA) out-shot Miami 27-25 for the game as Laker junior goaltender Matt Violin (1-2-1) took the loss and Miami's Steve Hartley (1-4-0) picked up his first win of the season.

Miami made it 1-0 at 1:14 of the first period when Greg Hogeboom started a line rush that led to an even-strength goal by Matt Christie. Hogeboom also scored the game-winning goal on a power play at 13:57 of the first period.

Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play.

Jeffrey Rainville and Mark Adamek assisted on Osman's goal.

The Lakers play host to St. Lawrence in a non-conference series on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at Taffy Abel Arena.
