MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University senior goaltender Craig Kowalski shut out Lake Superior State for the second time in as many night's as the Wildcats skated to another 3-0 victory in Game 2 of this weekend's home-and-home series.

LSSU (4-6-4 overall, 2-6-2), which played on an Olympic-sized ice sheet for the first time this season, out-shot NMU 28-23 and was stopped by Kowalski on two break-aways. LSSU freshman Trent Campbell also broke away and hit the crossbar late in the game.

The Lakers out-shot the Wildcats 34-20 in Friday's 3-0 loss in Sault Ste. Marie for a 62-43 advantage for the weekend. They suffered back-to-back shutout losses for the first time since they went three games without scoring a goal against Michigan (two games) and Bowling Green (one game) during the 2001-02 season.

Alan Swanson scored NMU's first goal at 1:24 of the first period, and Darin Olver finished out the scoring with two unassisted goals a minute apart during the first five minutes of the third period. Sault Ste. Marie native Alex Sawruk assisted on Swanson's goal and finished with two points for the weekend.

LSSU freshman Jeff Jakaitis (2-2-2) totaled 20 saves in the loss. Kowalski (7-7-0) stopped all 28 shots in his 10th career shutout victory.

The Wildcats improved to 7-7-0 overall and 6-6-0 in the CCHA.

LSSU returns home to play host to Alaska-Fairbanks on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. It will be the Lakers' final series before a three-week holiday break.
