Violin named CCHA Defensive Player of the Week

ANN ARBOR - Lake Superior State junior goaltender Matt Violin totaled 40 saves in Friday's 3-3 tie and 35 saves in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Western Michigan to earn Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Violin, who played back-to-back games for the first time since Oct. 24-25, recorded his first 40-save effort of the season and the sixth of his career. Friday's game marked only the second time this season that the Lakers (6-7-5 overall) have given up more than 40 shots on goal.

This season, Violin is 4-5-3 with a 2.98 goals-against average and .893 save percentage. For his career, he is 12-39-8 with a 3.33 gaa and .905 save percentage. He currently ranks second on LSSU's career save percentage chart and holds school records for most single-game saves (60) and most saves in a series (88).
