SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State came from behind to beat Notre Dame 2-1 in dramatic fashion in Game 2 of Saturday's Central Collegiate Hockey Association series.

The Lakers (7-11-2 overall, 6-6-2 CCHA) fell behind 1-0 when Notre Dame's Chris Trick scored an even-strength goal at 16:55 of the second period. Still scoreless late in the game, they were forced to pull goaltender Jeff Jakaitis in favor of an extra attacker and tied it, 1-1, at 19:32 of the third period.

LSSU's last-minute goal was a tip-in by Matt Restoule. Kory Scoran took the initital shot from the point, and Jon Booras also drew an assist.

Jeff Rainville scored the game-winning goal 56 seconds into the overtime period by deflecting the puck past Irish goalie Morgan Cey. Nathan Ward and Derek R. Smith were credited with assists.

Jakaitis (5-10-1) totaled a season-high 42 saves as LSSU gave up its second-highest shot total of the year. He totaled 18 saves in the first period as LSSU was forced to kill off three straight penalties.

Cey (3-6-4) totaled 29 saves.

Both teams were 0-for-5 on the power play.

The Lakers, who went into the game tied for sixth place with Michigan State in the CCHA standings, play host to Alabama-Huntsville in a non-conference series on Jan. 14-15.
