Jakaitis is named CCHA Goaltender of the Week

FARMINGTON HILLS - Lake Superior State sophomore goaltender Jeff Jakaitis was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week after stopping 73 of 75 shots (.973) in the Lakers' 1-1 tie and 2-1 overtime victory over Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday.

LSSU improved its CCHA record to 6-6-2 and held on to sixth place in the league standings.

Jakaitis stopped all seven shots to help the Lakers kill off a five-minute major penalty in the second period of Friday's game. He totaled 18 saves in the first period on Saturday, including several as the Lakers killed off three straight penalties. He totaled 32 saves on Friday and a season-high 41 on Saturday.

Michigan's Jeff Tambellini totaled three goals and two assists to earn CCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors. U-M's Matt Hunwick (0-3--3) was named Defensive Player of the Week as the Wolverines swept a home-and-home series with Western Michigan. Bowling Green's Alex Foster (1-3--4) was named CCHA Rookie of the Week after leading the Falcons to 6-2 and 6-1 wins over Alaska Fairbanks.

The Lakers play host to Alabama-Huntsville in a non-conference series at 7:35 p.m. Friday and 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Taffy Abel Arena. LSSU and the Chargers will be meeting for the first time.
