SAULT STE. MARIE - The entire Lake Superior State hockey team was on hand to assist 45 participants in Wednesday's "Have Fun, Play Hockey" clinic at Taffy Abel Arena.
LSSU's free clinic was one of 17 sponsored by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, FSN, the Detroit Red Wings, RBK and Perani's Hockey World. It was open for boys and girls ages 5-11 and designed for kids who have never played hockey before. The next clinic is Jan. 24 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The clinic is part of Hockey Day in Michigan festivities. The third annual Hockey Day in Michigan is Feb. 16 and coincides with USA Hockey's "Hockey Weekend Across America."
Hockey Day in Michigan will feature a pair of televised games, including LSSU at Michigan on FSN. National festivities include "Wear Your Jersey to School Day" and "Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes Day." The weekend will culminate with the Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey Championships in Eagle River, Wisconsin.
