Lakers lose 4-1 in Game 2 of ND series

SAULT STE. MARIE - Fifth-ranked Notre Dame became the first team to sweep 15th-ranked Lake Superior State this season. The Irish defeated the LSSU, 4-1, Saturday at Taffy Abel Arena to move back into first place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings.

UND (19-4-1 overall, 13-2-1 CCHA) also won 4-3 in overtime on Friday.

John Scrymgeour scored the only goal for the Lakers (13-8-3 overall, 7-6-3 CCHA).

Notre Dame, which was held scoreless on the power play Friday, finished 2-for-4 with the man-advantage on Saturday, getting goals from Josh Sciba and Erik Condra. Ryan Thang made it 3-0 with an even-strength goal at 3:54 of the third period.

Scrymgeour scored his goal at 14:11 of the third period while LSSU goaltender Jeff Jakaitis was pulled in favor of an extra attacker. Troy Schwab and Josh Sim drew the assists.

UND's Garrett Regan answered with an empty-net goal at 18:02. The Lakers played 5 1/2 minutes with six skaters late in the third period.

Jakaitis totaled 36 saves, while Irish goaltender David Brown stopped 30 of 31 shots. Notre Dame out-shot Lake Superior State, 40-31.

LSSU finished 0-for-7 on the power play.

The Lakers continue CCHA play Jan.19-20 at Michigan State. Saturday's game will be televised on FSN Detroit.
