Lakers and Nanooks tie for the second night in a row

FAIRBANKS, Alaska-- The Lake Superior State hockey team skated to a stalemate with Alaska Fairbanks for the second night in a row Saturday night. The two teams ended the overtime period tied at one.

LSSU (7-13-6, 6-7-5 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) ended the first period with a one goal advantage. Junior center Colin Nicholson scored his third goal of the year at 3:14 into the first period. Senior defenseman Ryan Reid picked up his first point of the season by assisting on Nicholson's goal. Freshman defenseman Justin Gutwald also assisted on the goal notching his first point as a Laker.

Nanook Aaron Lee scored his second goal of the weekend to tie the game at one at 12:56 into the second period. Lucas Burnett and Ryan Muspratt assisted on the goal.

Senior goaltender Matt Violin resided in net for the Lakers. Violin made 33 saves and was named the Perani Cup second star of the game.

Wylie Rogers took his place in between the pipes for the second night in a row for Alaska Fairbanks. Rogers made 22 saves.

Neither team was able to convert on the power play during the weekend. UAF was 0-4 and LSSU was 0-7 Saturday night.

Alaska Fairbanks and Lake Superior State join Michigan State and Miami (Ohio) in a four-way tie for sixth place with 17 points in the CCHA.

Lake Superior State returns home next weekend to face Ohio State University. Face-off is at 7:35 p.m. Friday night and 7:05 p.m. Saturday night.
