LSSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to sponsor 'Spirit Week'

Feb. 8, 2007

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State Student-Athletic Advisory Committee is sponsoring a Spirit Week from Feb. 11 through Feb. 16.

The goal of SAAC Spirit Week is to promote camaraderie among all 11 Laker team varsity teams, but the public is invited to participate in the themed events. The week kicks off with a talent show involving Laker athletes at 7 p.m. in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

A complete schedule of events is listed below:

Sunday: Talent show with Laker athletes, 7 p.m., Cooper Gym

Monday: Crazy Hair Day - Laker teams will receive points for every athlete who wears "crazy hair." The athlete with the craziest hair will earn bonus points for his or her team.

Tuesday: Dress like a Hawaiian

Wednesday: Laker Pride Day - any LSSU student who wears Laker clothing to Wednesday's basketball games against Saginaw Valley State will receive a free popcorn at the concession stand. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday: Dress Like Your Favorite Laker Player or Coach Day

Friday: Whiteout - the first 400 LSSU students to come to Friday's hockey game against Michigan will receive a free "Whiteout" t-shirt. Game time is 7:35 p.m.

The LSSU SAAC is made up of representatives of all 11 LSSU varsity teams and provides a forum for the discussion of student-athlete concerns and a channel of communication to administrators through which these concerns can be heard. The LSSU SAAC uses the power of organization to promote not only the University's athletic teams but to also help promote community relations and good sportsmanship to the college community and the Sault Ste. Marie community in general. The SAAC creates an environment in which all varsity sports are represented equally. It strives for student-athlete awareness on the LSSU campus.
