Feb. 19, 2007

SAULT STE. MARIE - The public is invited to stop by the Cisler Center Rathskeller from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday and participate in the Jeff Jakaitis Vote-a-Thon.

As of today, Jakaitis is the leading vote getter on www.hobeybaker.com with more than 42,000 votes. Fan voting to help determine the 2007 Hobey Baker Award finalists continues through March 4.

Yes FM's Soo Morning Crew, Timmy E and Erin, will be on hand to broadcast live.

"It is an honor for Yes FM to back Jeff in his bid for the Hobey Baker Award," said Tim Ellis of Yes FM. "Jeff epitomizes what student-athletes are all about. He excels on the ice and in the classroom, and he gives his time to helping out the local community as well. Volunteering his time to the Boys and Girl Club of Sault Ste. Marie is just one example.

"He is a great role model for the children who look up to him, and an inspiration to the adults who know him. It is our hope we can help Jeff get recognized for his accomplishments as one of the top goaltenders in college hockey by spreading the word through our stations. This event is just one way we can do that. Jeff deserves this award, and so does the community that loves Laker Hockey and its deep tradition in Sault Ste. Marie."

Jakaitis, of Rochester, Minn., currently leads the nation in save percentage at .937 and is ranked 11th in goals-against average at 2.16. He is on track to become LSSU's all-time leader in save percentage and finish among the top two in career saves and goals-against average. He was a Central Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year finalist and Perani Cup points champion in 2005-06. He is also a two-time CCHA Scholar-Athlete and three-time LSSU most-valuable player.
