NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Lake Superior State freshman Adrian Kremblewski and junior Kyle Anderson scored early in the third period to trim a 3-0 Notre Dame lead to 3-2, but the Lakers came up a bit short in Friday's Central Collegiate Hockey Association game.

LSSU (5-22-4 overall, 2-20-1 CCHA) pulled the goalie in favor of the extra attacker with 1:04 remaining, and had a power-play opportunity with :56.5 seconds to go, but failed to score the tying goal. Despite dominating the third period, LSSU was outshot 50-21 for the night.

Jeremy Bachusz and Ryan Reid assisted on Kremblewski's goal at 3:16 of third period, and Mike Adamek and Bachusz drew assists on Anderson's goal at 5:49.

Notre Dame (12-13-6 overall, 10-10-3 CCHA) built a 3-0 lead on goals by Brett Lebda at 9:27 of the first period, Cory McLean at 3:44 of the second period and Mike Walsh at 2:20 of the third.

Notre Dame goaltender Morgan Cey (11-11-6) turned away LSSU freshman Jon Booras, who had two good scoring chances during the final minute. Cey totaled 19 saves, while Laker sophomore Matt Violin (3-18-3) stopped 47 shots. It was the fourth time this season that Violin has been credited with 40 or more saves.

LSSU finished 0-for-1 on the power play, while Notre Dame was 0-for-2.

The Lakers and Irish play Game 2 of their series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
