Schofield is named CCHA Rookie of the Week

FARMINGTON HILLS - Lake Superior State forward Rick Schofield was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week after scoring a goal in both games of LSSU's 2-1 overtime and 5-3 victories at home against Alaska.

Schofield, who extended his goal-scoring streak to three games, scored the game-winning goal at 2:42 of overtime on Friday. He also tallied the Lakers' first goal on Saturday. He was +2 and had three blocked shots during the series.

The 6-2, 190-pounder from Pickering, Ont., is LSSU's top-scoring freshman and fifth on the team overall with 9-5--14. He also has the Lakers' best plus/minus rating of +5.

Northern Michigan's Matt Siddall was named CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, while Michigan State's Jeff Petry earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Ohio State's Joseph Palmer was named CCHA Goaltender of the Week.

The Lakers (8-18-6 overall, 6-15-5 CCHA) play their final regular-season home game against Northern Michigan at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
