Chris Peterson

March 6, 2004

SAULT STE. MARIE - Senior Chris Peterson scored a goal in his final game as a Laker to highlight the Lake Superior State hockey team's regular-season finale against Notre Dame on Saturday at Taffy Abel Arena.

Notre Dame came back from a 1-0 deficit to win the game, 2-1. The Fighting Irish (18-12-4 overall, 14-11-3 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) got goals from Michael Bartlett and Jason Paige in the second period to pull out the win.

Peterson scored LSSU's lone marker 34 seconds into the game. Trent Campbell and Jeff Rainville drew assists.

Peterson, along with seniors Ryan Branham, Kyle Anderson and Tim Krueckl were honored following the game.

"The seniors have been awfully good this year," LSSU coach Frank Anzalone said. "They have been a big part of our scheme to try and get better. They have offered a lot of assistance to young players. Tim Krueckl has done everything he could to try and be a good player and has helped out a lot.

Ryan Branham, Chris Peterson and Kyle Anderson have all been forthright in sticking with the team and not quitting. They have been huge in keeping us on the path. We really appreciate everything they have done. If we ever get better, we will really remember them like the guys in the past who were here before we became great."

Both teams finished 0-for-3 on the power play. LSSU goaltender Jeff Jakaitis totaled 29 saves in taking the loss. UND netminder Morgan Cey stopped 13 of 14 shots on goal.

The Lakers fell to 9-18-7 overall, 7-16-5 in the CCHA. As of press time Saturday, they expected to be traveling to Miami for the first round of the CCHA Playoffs.
