Lakers end their season with a 2-1 loss to Miami

OXFORD, Ohio-Lake Superior State (9-20-7, 7-18-5 CCHA) ended their 2003-04 season in Oxford, Ohio Saturday night with a 2-1 over time loss to the University of Miami of Ohio (22-12-4, 19-8-3 CCHA).

Miami's Matt Christie scored the first goal of the hockey game at 5:47 of the first period. During Friday night's game Christie scored at almost the identical time to give his team a 1-0 lead after the first period.

Colin Nicholson scored the game tying goal at 9:03 of the second period to score his team's first goal of the weekend. Mike Adamek and Steve McJannet assisted on the goal.

The two teams remained tied through regulation. The game winning goal was scored by Miami's Todd Grant 12:05 into the overtime period.

Jeff Jakaitis earned a Perani Cup third star for his outstanding performance in the Laker net. Jakaitis made 40 saves in his last game as a freshman. He made 11 saves during the overtime period alone.

The Lakers were able to hold back the fast-skating RedHawk power play and did not let them score on any of their three chances.

The RedHawks move on to play in the CCHA Super Six at Joe Louis Arena March 18-20.
