Jeff Jakaitis

April 7, 2007

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Lake Superior State senior goaltender Jeff Jakaitis was named to the Lowe's All-Senior All-America First Team.

Jakaitis, who is currently attending the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis as a Pontiac Skills Challenge participant, joined Notre Dame goaltender David Brown, Rensselaer forward Kirk MacDonald, U-Mass forward Matt Anderson and Air Force defenseman Billy Devoney on the all-senior first team.

Lowe's Senior CLASS Award

Brown became the first recipient of the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for men's ice hockey. The award is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. It is considered one of the nation's premier tributes to college seniors, requiring excellence in the classroom, character, community and competition.

Second-team selections included Maine forward Michel Leveille, St. Cloud State forward Nate Raduns, Western Michigan defenseman Ryan Mahrle, Alaska forward Curtis Fraser and Denver goaltender Glenn Fisher.

Jakaitis, a three-time Central Collegiate Hockey Association Scholar-Athlete, finished second in the nation in save percentage this season. He is leaving LSSU with nine school records as a goaltender. He has been active in a variety of community service activities, including the Boys and Girls Club of Chippewa County and the Relay for Life.

The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award has expanded to include men's ice hockey, men's lacrosse, baseball and softball. It was originally established to recognize men's and women's basketball seniors who did not leave college early to play professionally.
