Marchant to bring veteran leadership to Scorpions

Terry Marchant

Aug. 30, 2006

RIO RANCHO, N.M. - The New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League have signed former Laker hockey player Terry Marchant for the 2006-07 season.

Marchant, in his ninth professional season, will be playing in the CHL for the first time.

"I know I will have to be a leader for a young group of forwards," he said. "Being a leader is something I relish. Last year I was the captain in Flint and enjoyed when young players came to me with questions. I did not always have the answers because I am still learning every day, but I welcome any player to ask me questions so we can all become better players and improve our game."

Last year, the Buffalo, N.Y., native led the Flint Generals and was 10th in the United Hockey League in points with 85. Overall, he has played 501 professional games, totaling 138-225-363.

Marchant played at LSSU from 1994-98. He led the Lakers in scoring in 1997-98, totaling 17-22-39. He earned All-Central Collegiate Hockey Association Second-Team honors that season.
