SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State hockey team will play its Blue-White Game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Taffy Abel Arena.

Admission to the Blue-White Game is free and will give fans a chance to get a look at the Lakers' 13 newcomers and walk-on candidates.

"We graduated a lot of guys last year, but we are very enthusiastic about our team," LSSU coach Jim Roque said during Central Collegiate Hockey Association Media Day held Wednesday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. "We have six seniors who have been biding their time and will be getting a chance to lead our team. They will be the go-to guys on our team."

LSSU graduated 12 seniors from last year's 15-14-7 team, which enjoyed its best season since 1999-00.

Roque is referring to seniors Barnabas Birkeland, Jeff Jakaitis, Dominic Osman, Jeff Rainville, Derek R. Smith and Trent Campbell.

On Sunday, the Soo BlueLiners will host a golf scramble and pig roast at Tanglewood Marsh Golf Course. The 9-hole golf outing begins with registration at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per person and $10 for the picnic, which begins at 5 p.m. The picnic is $8 for children and LSSU students with a valid school ID.

Fans will also have an opportunity to meet the Laker hockey team on Monday, Oct. 9, during the United Way Spaghetti Supper at Tanglewood Marsh Golf Course. Ang-Gio's will cater the meal, and members of the 2006-07 LSSU and Soo Indians AAA midget hockey teams will be servers. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door, and carry-outs are available. To order carry-out, call 632-3700.
