Oct. 13, 2006

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Lake Superior State senior goaltender Jeff Jakaitis totaled 43 saves, but an unassisted short-handed goal by Ohio State's Tommy Goebel was the difference in Friday's Central Collegiate Hockey Association opener between the Lakers and Buckeyes.

OSU edged LSSU 1-0 to hand the Lakers their third shutout loss in as many games against the Buckeyes.

Ohio State controlled the game's middle stanza, out-shooting Lake Superior State 24-7. The Buckeyes out-shot the Lakers 44-22 for the game.

Both teams were scoreless on the power play as LSSU finished 0-for-7, and OSU was 0-for-5. Lake Superior State went on a power play at 17:47 of the third period and pulled Jakaitis in favor of an extra attacker at 18:51, but failed to score.

OSU netminder Joseph Palmer totaled 22 saves. LSSU held an 11-9 shooting edge in the opening period.

The Lakers and Buckeyes square off again Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Value City Arena.
