HOUGHTON - Lake Superior State dominated the second period, but Michigan Tech reclaimed momentum in the third and held on to win Sunday afternoon's Superior Showcase showdown, 4-3, at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

LSSU's Simon Gysbers scored on a long slap shot with one second remaining in the first period to trim MTU's lead to 2-1. Laker Nik Sellers tied it 2-2 at 7:41 of the second period, and teammate Nathan Perkovich gave LSSU a 3-2 lead by scoring at 9:50 of the middle stanza.

With two seconds remaining in a Michigan Tech power play late in the second period, the Huskies' Jordan Foote scored to make it 3-3. MTU's Jimmy Kerr tallied the game-winning goal at 3:39 of the third period.

Michigan Tech (1-1-0) finished 2-for-6 on the power play, while LSSU (0-1-1) was 0-for-4. Three of the Lakers' four power-play chances occurred in the first period. LSSU had the only power-play opportunity in the third period.

LSSU goaltender Pat Inglis totaled 21 saves, while MTU netminder Rob Nolan finished with 14.

Chad Nehring and Dan Eves drew assists on Sellers' goal. Rick Schofield and Josh Sim assisted on Perkovich's goal. Gysbers' goal was unassisted.

Perkovich tallied a goal in both games for Lake Superior State over the weekend. Sellers, Nehring and Eves had a point in both games.

Minnesota-Duluth defeated Northern Michigan 4-0 on Saturday and posted the best record of the four teams in the inaugural Superior Showcase.
