Mike Adamek

Oct. 16, 2004

HAMILTON, N.Y.--Colgate's Adam Mitchell robbed the Lake Superior State hockey team's hopes of notching its first win of the regular season when he scored 33 seconds into overtime. Mitchell's goal sealed Colgate's 2-1 win over LSSU (0-2).

The Saturday night game of the two-game series was once again scoreless after one period of play. Colgate's Dave Thomas put his team on the board first 13:20 into the second period. His power-play goal was assisted by Marc Fulton and Eric Main during a two-minute tripping penalty to Laker forward Alex Dunn.

LSSU's Mike Adamek tied the game at 18:58 into the second period by scoring a power-play goal. Defensemen John Nogatch and Barnabas Birkeland notched their second points of the weekend by assisting on Adamek's goal. The defensive pair was powerful on the power-play all weekend.

The two teams skated through a scoreless third period. Mitchell scored the game-winning overtime goal on a pass by Mike Campaner.

Sophomore goalie Jeff Jakaitis made 28 saves for Lake Superior. Colgate's Steve Silverthorn stopped 22 of the Lakers' shots.

Adamek led the Lakers with three points for the weekend (one goal and two assists). Adamek was named Saturday's third star of the game.

The Lakers will begin conference action at home on Thursday, Oct. 21, when they take on the University of Michigan. Face-off is at 7:35 p.m. at Taffy Abel Arena.
