No. 8 Clarkson scores two in the first and two in the third

SAULT STE. MARIE - Eighth-ranked Clarkson scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal to take a 1-0 lead at 9:22, and picked up two more special teams goals in the third period while shutting out Lake Superior State, 4-0, Friday at Taffy Abel Arena.

The Golden Knights (4-1-0) and Lakers (0-2-1) meet again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.

CU goaltender David Leggio stopped all 19 shots on goal to earn the shutout victory. LSSU netminder Pat Inglis totaled 21 saves.

Clarkson led 2-0 after the first period on Steve Zalewski's mid-period 5-on-3 power-play goal and Lauri Tuohimaa's even-strength goal at 15:04.

Clarkson's Nick Dodge tallied the short-handed marker at 6:26 of the third period, and Chris D'Alvise made it 4-0 with a power-play goal at 12:41.

Clarkson finished 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Lakers were 0-for-5.

Clarkson's win evened the all-time series between the two teams at 5-5-0.
