BOWLING GREEN, OHIO--Lake Superior State (1-4 overall, 1-2 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) picked up its first win of the season by beating Bowling Green 5-1 Friday night.

Defenseman Kory Scoran gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead in the first period when he scored his first goal of the season during a five on three power-play. Scoran rifled a slap shot from the blue line to score over the shoulder of Falcon goalie Jordan Sigalet.

BGSU's Jonathan Matsumoto tied the game 6:49 into the second period when he picked up a rebound off a shot by Taylor Christie.

Laker forward Mike Adamek scored the game-winning goal three minutes later after picking up a rebound on a shot by Steve McJannet. Alex Dunn also assisted on the goal.

Picking up rebounds was the key to the Laker offense. One minute after Adamek's game-winning-goal, Nathan Ward gave the Lakers a 3-1 lead after scoring off a rebounded shot by Trent Campbell. Campbell and Matt Restoule picked up assists on the goal.

Ward netted his second goal of the evening at 14:56 of the second period on a backhanded shot assisted by Dan Eves and Bo Cheesman.

The Lakers' penalty killing unit was put to the test late in the second period when Campbell received a five-minute major penalty for checking from behind. Sophomore Dominic Osman served Campbell's penalty after he left the game. Bowling Green was unable to convert on any of its seven power-play opportunities.

Jon Booras picked up his second point of the game when he netted an unassisted goal three minutes into the third period.

Laker goaltender Jeff Jakaitis earned his first win of the year by making 27 saves. Sigalet was awarded his first loss and made 28 saves.

The Lakers earned all three of the Perani Cup Three Stars of the game. Ward earned a first star, Booras a second, and Jakaitis a third.

Lake Superior State and Bowling Green (2-1 overall, 0-1 CCHA) will meet again at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the BGSU Ice Arena.
