Matt Restoule

Oct. 29, 2005

SAULT STE. MARIE - Junior forward Matt Restoule's third-period goal made Saturday's rematch interesting at the end, but the Lake Superior State hockey team fell short, 2-1, in Game 2 of its Central Collegiate Hockey Association series against Northern Michigan.

LSSU (1-2-3 overall, 0-2-2 CCHA) was scoreless on the power play for the third straight game. NMU (5-1-0 overall, 2-0-0 CCHA), meanwhile, scored both goals on the power play, finishing 2-for-4 with the man advantage. The Lakers were 0-for-9 for the night and 0-for-16 for the series.

Andrew Contois scored a power-play goal at 1:57 of the second period to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Pat Bateman made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 19:32 of the same period.

Restoule's goal at 14:29 of the third period cut NMU's lead in half. The Lakers dominated the last three minutes of the game, but Wildcat goalie Bill Zaniboni held on for the win and improved to 5-0-0 for the season.

Colin Nicholson and Barnabas Birkeland assisted on Restoule's goal.

LSSU goaltender Jeff Jakaitis totaled 20 saves, while Zaniboni finished with 24 saves.
