BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Bowling Green State ruined Lake Superior State's (1-5 overall, 1-3 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) hopes of having its first weekend sweep since 2001. The Falcons beat the Lakers 2-1 in a Saturday afternoon hockey game at the BGSU Ice Arena.

BGSU's Rich Meloche scored the first goal of the game 18:32 into the first period. Meloche scored his power-play goal during a two-minute checking from behind penalty to Laker Steve McJannet.

The Falcons' lead was short-lived. Less than 30 seconds later, Laker Matt Restoule scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game. Mike Adamek and McJannet both picked up their second points of the weekend by assisting on the goal.

After leaving the first period in a 1-1 tie, Meloche scored his second goal of the game at 1:25 of the second period. Meloche's game-winning goal hit Laker goaltender Jeff Jakaitis and trickled over the goal line.

The Lakers were unable to convert on any of their six power-play opportunities. Bowling Green was 1-for-6. The Lakers out-shot the Falcons, 35-28.

Falcon goaltender Jonathan Sigalet earned a first star of the game by making 34 saves. Jakaitis made 26 saves and was named third star.

Lake Superior State will resume home hockey action on parents' weekend Friday, Nov. 12, when the Lakers will take on Alaska-Fairbanks. Face-off will be at 7:35 p.m. at Taffy Abel Arena.
