NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Thirteenth-ranked Notre Dame scored four goals in the second period, including two during a five-minute power-play, to take control of Thursday's Central Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Joyce Center. The Irish went on to win, 7-3.

Notre Dame (5-3-0 overall, 4-2-0 CCHA) rebounded from last Saturday's 3-0 home loss to Ferris State by limiting the Lakers (1-3-1 overall, 0-1-0 CCHA) to 15 shots on goal. Eric Condra totaled two goals and three assists, and Mark VanGuilder had two goals and two assists to lead the Irish.

Although the Irish struck first, LSSU's Nathan Perkovich scored his fourth goal in five games at 12:20 of the first period to tie the game, 1-1.

Notre Dame built a 3-1 lead on even-strength goals by Robin Bergman at 00:17 and Van Guilder at 4:20. After LSSU freshman Rick Schofield scored his first career goal at 8:08 to cut the lead to 3-2, Notre Dame extended its lead to 5-2 on power-play goals by Condra and Van Guilder. The two Irish goals were scored during a 1:32 span after Laker Zac MacVoy received a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct.

Condra scored again at 00:40, and Josh Sim tallied LSSU's third goal at 8:28 of the third period to round out the scoring.

Lake Superior State goaltender Pat Inglis totaled 20 saves, while Jordan Pearce had 12 saves for UND. The Lakers finished 1-for-4 on the power play, and the Irish were 3-for-5.

MacVoy, Steve Oleksy and Troy Schwab had assists for the Lakers.

LSSU and Notre Dame face off again at 7:35 p.m. Friday at the Joyce Center.
