Mavericks beat Lakers 7-1

Trent Campbell

Nov. 7, 2003

OMAHA, Nebraska-Nebraska-Omaha beat the Lakers 7-1 in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association game on Friday night at Qwest Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. The Lakers continue to look for their first regular season CCHA road win since a 5-3 win over Alaska-Fairbanks on December 9, 2000.

LSSU (2-3-2, 0-3-0 CCHA) hoped to start a winning streak after their 4-2 win over St. Lawrence last week. Nebraska-Omaha (1-5-1, 1-3-1 CCHA) stopped that streak quickly and gained its first win of the season after losing its first six games.

Trent Campbell scored his second goal of the season at 13:38 of the third period. His power play goal was assisted by Alex Dunn and Jon Booras. Booras has three assists for the season.

The Lakers out-shot the Mavs 28 to 26 but were unable to convert the shots to goals. LSSU was one for four on the power play, while UNO was two for two

Matt Violin made fifteen saves and allowed six goals. Freshman Jeff Jakaitis relieved Violin in the third period allowing one goal and made four saves.

The Lakers and Mavericks will meet again tomorrow night at 8:05 ET.
