Ohio State topples Lakers, 4-1

SAULT STE. MARIE - Ohio State scored three unanswered goals in the third period to come back from a 1-0 deficit and went on to beat the Lake Superior State hockey team 4-1 Friday at Taffy Abel Arena.

LSSU (3-6-0 overall, 0-5-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association) was out-shot 11-4 in the first period, but led 1-0 after freshman Mike Adamek scored his first goal of the season at 13:25. Chris Peterson and David Kellington drew assists.

OSU (5-2-1 overall, 2-0-1 CCHA) roared back with power-play goals by Ryan Kesler and Paul Caponigri, and an even-strength goal by R.J. Umberger in the second period. Dan Knapp made it 4-1 with a goal at 1:03 of the third period. Knapp and Umberger each had a goal and two assists for the night.

Ohio State out-shot LSSU 42-17 as winning goalie Mike Betz improved to 4-2-1. Laker goalie Matt Violin dropped his record to 1-5-0.

The Lakers and Buckeyes meet again Saturday at 7:05 in Sault Ste. Marie.
